The Survivors by Isabel Valero & Zoe Ginocchio, 2023
These toys represents ʻla luchaʼ or the battle that animals are facing against extinction.
Their white body resembles lack of presence and weakness while emphasizing their colored mask, which they wear to fight for their survival. The toys are 3D printed and
sculpted with clay around a plastic container that was ready for its disposal. We have played with this material, showing one of the threats to these animals yet recycling it to prevent their disposal. We have managed to create an alebrije, a typical Mexican figure which represents good luck, while including chaquiras that act as armor and imitate handcrafted Mexican pieces.
