Desperanza, 35 x 115 cm, Woven plastic wrappers, 2020
Influenced by El Anatsui, this tapestry represents the magnitude of consumerism by bringing together approximately 50 plastic wrappers that I collected before they were disposed of. It brings attention to our waste and transforms it into a representative piece that resembles a path, introducing the question of whether we will continue to follow it or not.
With this piece, I prevented the disposal of these plastic wrappers and represented their physical presence and value to bring awareness to the subject of consuming massively. I chose this material since it is shiny and lightweight; therefore, the wind would make it eye-catching for the audience to pay attention to the piece and understand the material.
